Asbestos Materials
Common materials
We are all familiar with the classic corrugated sheets and slates. Meanwhile, pipe insulation has also become widely recognized as a common application, as well as Bakelite switches. Below, you can find some examples.
"Menuiserite" Boards
The boards come in various colors (pink, gray, yellow) and, in some cases, contain asbestos. Menuiserite boards typically contain 10% to 15% asbestos, primarily chrysotile (white asbestos). However, this percentage can vary depending on the manufacturer and production date. Menuiserite was often used as a fire-resistant or moisture-resistant board material in walls, ceilings, and roofs.
Vynil
In addition to the adhesive used to secure the vinyl floor, the vinyl itself may also contain asbestos, often in the cardboard underlay of the floor covering. The asbestos content typically ranges from 5% to 20%, depending on the type of flooring and the production date.
Plaster
Not as commonly found in residential buildings but an important material to highlight! Asbestos fibers can also be present in plaster (both walls and ceilings), which is impossible to see with the naked eye, but under a microscope, it reveals the following "beautiful" images.
Do you have doubts after seeing the above images about whether any of these applications in your property may also contain asbestos?
